Steady-state envelope (IEA 22 MW)

Reviewer-reproducible operating envelope, 3–25 m/s — download the manual.

This manual drives the IEA-22-280-RWT-Onshorereference turbine through the platform end-to-end and reports the resulting steady-state operating envelope. It is UI-driven: every figure is produced by clicking the same screens any user sees.

How to run the case

A 24-point steady-wind sweep through the operating envelope, driven from the Parametric Analysis workflow:

  • Turbine. IEA-22-280-RWT-Onshore, picked from the Turbine Library — production configuration (gravity on, -6° shaft tilt, flexible tower, ElastoDyn modal blade, ROSCO).
  • Environment. Steady uniform inflow, no shear, air density 1.225 kg/m³, reference height at the 170 m hub.
  • Sweep. Wind speed 3 → 25 m/s in 1 m/s steps, plus an explicit 11.5 m/s rated marker — 24 jobs.
  • Window. TMax = 300 s per point; statistics taken over the last 60 s.

Submit from the Run tab and watch the 24-job batch drain in the Job Monitor (four in flight at a time, ~1 h 18 min wall-clock).

Expected result

The output is Figure 1, a six-panel operating envelope versus hub-height wind speed. To confirm the run is correct, check each panel reads as its textbook shape:

  • Rotor speed climbs along optimal TSR through partial load, then saturates at rated rotor speed.
  • Blade pitch holds at the bundled minimum through partial load, then ramps monotonically to ~23° at cut-out.
  • Generator power is the canonical power curve — cubic below rated, flat at 22 MW above ~11 m/s.
  • Generator torque tracks power below rated, then plateaus at the rated-torque limit.
  • Rotor thrust peaks just before rated, then falls monotonically as the blades feather.
  • Blade-tip out-of-plane deflection peaks near rated.

All 24 jobs should converge within the 300 s budget with zero failures; the transitions through cut-in and rated should be continuous, with no controller-induced overshoot in any channel.

Why reviewer-reproducible?

A reviewer should be able to open the platform, pick the same public turbine, click through the same workflow, and recover the same six-panel envelope — every click, every field, every chart. Zeph can point you at this manual when you ask about the 22 MW operating envelope (see Zeph guide), and certifier-grade reports can reference it as the model-verification annex (see Reports).
